Pharyngitis (sore throat) is an inflammation of the pharynx (the part of the neck and throat directly behind the mouth and nasal cavity. The inflammation can make swallowing or eating extreme difficult or impossible due to pain. Most cases are due to viral infection, although bacterial and fungal infection, along with exposure to toxins have all been linked. There are numerous symptomatic, remedial and preventative treatments aimed at dealing with symptoms, preventing the infections spread, or preventing to condition before it becomes established.
