Dementia is a decline in mental ability, due to either damage or disease, which is greater than expected do to aging. It is most common in the elderly population. Dementia does not have any specific criteria, rather, it is a group of symptoms. These include problems with memory, attention, language, and problem solving. Because Dementia can be caused by numerous different maladies, prognoses and treatment vary. Some cases are reversible, others not.
