Delirium is a syndrome which is caused by irregular functioning of the brain. It develops quickly and leaves its host confused. Patients may also have reduced awareness and responsiveness to their surroundings. They may become disoriented and incoherent. Memory loss is another symptom. There is a wide variety of causes of delirium including underlying diseases, chemical imbalances, drug reactions (both medical and recreational) and exposure to toxins.
