Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva (a membrane which lines the eyeball and the eyelids). The swelling causes blood vessels in the conjunctiva to become more prominent and visible, hence the name "pink eye". It is caused by a bacterial or viral infection of an allergic reaction of some sort.
